Looks like we are not the only ones who are frustrated with Apple’s India retail strategy. Apple has always been attacked in India for dumping its previous generation products in India to clear inventory before they launch a new product in the US. It has also been noted that Apple only allows a few sales channels to sell their products in India, thus creating a monopoly and shortage of supply.
A fellow citizen has filed a lawsuit against Apple in India under section 4 of the Competition Act 2002 claiming that Apple is curbing the customer’s choice by limiting the availability of iPhones and iPads in India to a limited number of service providers, besides its signature stores. This has led to the Competition Commission of India to scan Apple for allegedly limiting the availability of its products to a few service providers using its dominant market position.
Let us hope that Apple loses this lawsuit as whatever the complainant has said is totally true. We do not hold a grudge against Apple, but we do believe that it should consider India as its primary market instead of just a dumping ground for old products.
