Did you know that Disney has a mobile phone division in Japan? Apparently they are quiet successful too. Now to tap the smartphone market Disney is coming up with Android based smartphones. The phones will basically have Disney themes both internally and externally.
The Disney phones in Japan run on Softbank, the largest Japanese telecom company, and allow users to download special Disney content from the Disney portal which is accessible at the click of a dedicated button on the phones. All the users also get a special @disney.ne.jp email address. We can expect the same and more from the Android based units too.
While the details are not official yet, MobileCrunch says that it looks like the phones are based on Sharp Galapagos 003SH. This means the phone will run Android 2.2 (Froyo) and have 3.8-inch 3D touchscreen (does not require 3D glasses), a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 9/6 Megapixel camera.
I don’t think that Disney will ever launch these in India but if you are really inclined you should start talking to that friend of a friend of a relative who lives in Japan.
