The next major Android release of Google’s Android Operating System is scheduled for March 2011 if rumors are to be believed. In a report Digitimes said the following.
On the other hand, MSI is set to display its 10-inch Wintel-based tablet PC as well as engineering samples of its ARM-based Google Android model. MSI is also prepared to sell an Nvidia Tegra 2-based model in April or May after Google releases Android 3.0 in March.
It casually mentions the release month of Android 3.0 to be March even when there is no official announcement of the same. We already know that Android 3.0 includes native support for tablets. After this release the manufacturers won’t be responsible for customizing the smartphone OS to suit the tablet design, form factor and size. Motorola has already started advertising their upcoming tablet hinting that they will be running Honeycomb and apparently that differs them from the existing Android tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
We’d personally wait for Tegra 2 based cellphones running Honeycomb. If Digitimes Honeycomb release date holds water, that should definitely happen by mid 2011.
