Sony’s NEX series of mirror less cameras took everyone by surprise. I happen to own a NEX 5N and totally love it. The two camera majors Nikon and Canon have been trying to make an impact in the mirror less segment. However, none of their offerings were able to match up to the NEX series. Looks like that is about to change. Canon just announced their latest mirror less offering – the EOS M in Japan. Lets quickly run down the specs:

- Full HD Movie with Focus Tracking
- 3.0″ Touch Screen LCD with 1040K-dots
- Touch AF and Multi-touch Operation
- Hybrid CMOS Auto-focus for Photo & Video
- Compatible with Canon EF and EF-S Lenses
- ISO 100-12800, Expandable to 25600 (H)
- Canon’s First Mirrorless Camera
- Includes Canon EF-M 22mm F/2 STM Lens
The EOS M will also be compatible with all of canon’s lenses using an adapter. It will retail for $800 in the US starting the October of this year. The camera looks pretty awesome and the first look opinions are looking great. The biggest USP is probably going to be the touchscreen controls (which might annoy some retro DSLR lovers). But what will really seal the deal is the price of the lenses for the camera. If the lenses are not as exorbitantly priced as the normal DSLR lenses, this this will sell like hot cakes.
