Intex (Yes, the company which used to make PC cabinets, speakers and other computer accessories and is now a full fledged electronics manufacturing company) is all set to launch the cheapest Android handset in India come February.

“We will launch an Android 2.2 phone in the first week of February and it will priced at around Rs 5,500,” said Sudhir Kumar, Assistant General Manager of the Telecom Division at Intex.

The phone is expected to have a 3.2 megapixel camera, 2.8 inches resistive (darn 🙁 ) touch screen, WiFi and GPS (!).

This is certainly good news for budget conscious Indian consumers who want to buy a smartphone. The phone will be launched in the 1st week of February.
