Gawker Media has reported that their servers have been compromised and the commenting user account’s passwords have possibly leaked. If you ever commented on any of the Gawker Media websites (Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Gawker, Jezebel, io9, Jalopnik, Kotaku, Deadspin and Fleshbot) you should be worried.
Here is what you need to do:
- Go to http://www.slate.com/id/2277768/, enter your email address in the provided widget and it will tell you whether your account has been compromised.
- Irrespective of the result from Step 1, go to Lifehacker, press Login at the top-right corner and reset your password, or login and change the password.
- If you use the same email/password combination for multiple accounts, please go ahead and change the passwords on all your important accounts.
An advice from us, please try to keep passwords different for different accounts. At least have sets of passwords for un-important and important accounts.
