Ever since I switched to Mac, I find it natural to use Expose for most of the Window management. It’s just faster and more convenient than Alt-Tab/Cmd-Tab when you have more than 3-4 windows open. Sadly, most browsers still primarily rely on the old way for tab-switching.
But some time back while going through Chrome’s hidden settings I discovered that they have an inbuilt Expose like tab-management system (only on the Mac version as of now). In fact, it’s been there since quite some time now. Earlier it used to crash my browser often but it seems stable since Chrome 9. It’s an excellent feature and improves the browsing experience quite a lot. Here is how to do it:
- Enter “about:flags” in your Chrome address bar. You will see a page with some experimental settings with a statutory warning. Don’t worry about it.
- Look for “Tab Overview” on the top of the list and Enable it. Restart Chrome.
- And you are done!
Now you can swipe down using 3 fingers and Chrome will show all the tabs in an Expose like way. It ‘s much a much better and faster way to switch tabs when you have loads of tabs open.
PS: Firefox 4 has an even more elegant solution for this, but well it’s still in Beta and slower than Chrome most of the time.

FireFox also has an Add-on Ctrl-Tab(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ctrl-tab/) which I have been using for some time now and its pretty good.
Btw, I was not able to find ‘Tab Overview’ under about:flags in Chrome. Did I miss anything?
It’s Mac only 🙁
Also FF has always has Foxpose too. But you should check out Firefox 4, it has awesome tab management.
