Google and Samsung are all set to launch the successor of Nexus one, the Nexus S in the US. Nexus S is the next Google branded smartphone which is manufactured by Samsung and will be available both unlocked and with a contract with T mobile in the US starting Dec 16, 2010. No word on pricing yet. UPDATE: The Nexus S will go for $199 with a contract and $529 for the unlocked version at Best Buy.

The nexus S is very similar to the bestselling Samsung Galaxy S and offers butt loads of improvements over the nexus one. In addition to being much more sleek and thinner, it boasts of the following features:

  • Gingerbread – the latest iteration of the Android OS pre installed without any crappy UI layer
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 16GB internal memory
  • 5 megapixel rear and VGA front facing camera
  • 4’’ contour display with 480×800 resolution
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 n/b/g
  • Native VOIP/SIP support
  • Up to 6.7 hours of talk time over 3G
  • Portable WiFi hotspot for up to 6 devices

Surprisingly, there is no SD card slot in the phone which means you cannot expand the memory beyond 16GB.

Google and Samsung handed out a few review pieces to some popular tech sites and their initial reviews are out. Check out Techcrunch’s detailed review.

  1. Epic still hasn't received an OFFICIAL froyo release and now gingerbread going out in a few weeks. Will us epic owners ever see gingerbread? Hahahaha only at a bakery lol. Btw nexus s will FAIL just like the nexus one, why because its only on ONE CARRIER. You'll see.

    • We understand. The biggest problem with android phones is that every 3 months there is a new (and somewhat better) android phone and your phone is obsolete.
