Finally, Microsoft has launched the black 250 GB Xbox 360 console in India at a price tag of INR 21,990. The company, in a press release on Thursday, August 26th 2010 announced that the new console will be available at all leading organized retail stores across India.

The new console has glossy black finish and is much better than its predecessors. Here are some of its key features:

  • Built in Wi-Fi
    • The new Xbox 360 comes with 802.11n Wi-Fi built in for a faster and easier connection to Xbox LIVE. Download games from Xbox LIVE Marketplace in 1080p and 5.1 surround sound from anywhere in the house. Compatible with b/g/n networks.
  • 250 GB HDD
    • The internal 250GB hard drive allows you to save your games, music, pictures, trailers, levels, demos, and other content available from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
  • Kinect ready with dedicated Kinect port
    • Coming this holiday, Kinect (previously called Project Natal) will make YOU the controller. With a dedicated, specialized port, the Xbox 360 250GB is built to connect seamlessly with the Kinect sensor.
  • 5 USB ports, HDMI port & Optical out port
  • Smaller form factor with  quieter operation
  • Better cooling

The package contains the following items:

  • Xbox 360 250 GB S console
  • Xbox 360 250 GB S removable hard drive
  • Xbox 360 black wireless controller
  • Xbox 360 black headset
  • Xbox 360 composite A/V cable
  • 1-month Xbox LIVE Gold membership
  • 1-year limited console warranty

At a price tag of INR 22,000, we would have also expected at least 6 months subscription to Xbox Live Gold and a HDMI cable (seriously, what’s the fucking point of bundling a composite cable and advertising the HD capabilities of a device?). A decent HDMI cable will cost you around INR 1000 in India. Considering that the same console is available at $300 (approx. INR 14,000) in the US, we would say that Microsoft is ripping off Indian consumers. They can blab about import duties all they want, but a price difference of INR 8,000 is totally absurd. We would recommend you to wait for a few days for the console to be available in “unorganized” retail stores in India and save a few thousand bucks. Also, keep checking forums like http://www.consoul.in as they usually run attractive deals.

However, if you cannot wait, you can buy it online at the Microsoft Store.
