In this new video released by BlackBerry, they compare the PlayBook browser to the iPad and well, the PlayBook performs comprehensively better!
Here are the key things to note:
- The PlayBook browser loads and renders the websites faster than the iPad every single time.
- PlayBook loads flash convincingly. It’s not the choppy, sub par rendering you see on most mobile devices. I wonder why they didn’t show Flash video playback though.
- PlayBook scores 100/100 and renders perfectly on the Acid3 test. iPad scores 100 too with a tiny imperfect pixel. On my Mac, Chrome scores 97 with really screwed up rendering, Firefox 4 Beta scores 97 with decent rendering and Safari scores 100 with perfect rendering.
- PlayBook renders the Pocket Full of Canvas demo Emboss Blobs pretty well and smooth. iPad is pretty choppy. On my Mac, all the browsers perform smooth to choppy depending on the load. Good Job QNX!
- Despite how good the PlayBook performs, you can’t help but notice how small it looks. The 7″ size is not the best way to browse. Especially with all the large-ish smartphones available nowadays.
Anyway, we are happy that BlackBerry is letting the product do the talking. After all, that it is the best approach.

How can you do a comparison like this I have an iPad 2 and my son has an iPad 1. The ipad2 plays this demo perfectly the iPad in the demo is an iPad 1. The ipad2 came out before the playbook, why not do a comparison with the iPad 2.
Hey Ken that’s probably because of the latest Safari update on iPad. I believe this video was recorded before the update.
And anyway, now we know from all the reviews that Playbook doesn’t have that great a browser as they claimed.
