After the major problems with iPhone 4 that led to a lot of backlash, Apple has apparently redesigning the Antenna in it’s devices again. They filed a patent in 2009 that was recently discovered and shows their intentions to hide the antenna behind the Apple logo.
The patent mentions that the logo would be made of a dielectric material that allows for the transmission and reception of radio-frequency signals. The patent applies to Wi-Fi signals as well as GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz so it’s expected to be seen in both the MacBooks and the iPhone/iPod. Interestingly the iPad already uses a variation of this design as shown by iFixit’s teardown and iMac 27″ is using it as well.
We are still not sure how it’ll prevent the death-grip problem. Possibly the plastic logo will act as a shield between the hands and the antenna. We sure hope so.
