Tata Docomo becomes the first private operator in India to offer 3G services

Seriously. Airtel, Vodafone and Idea should go drown themselves in a cup of water. A network much younger to them has beaten them in launching 3G services in the fastest growing telecom market in the world.

It seems like yesterday that Tata Docomo launched in India with their awesome ad campaign and the amazing jingle and induced a price war in the telecom space in India. It is a result of this price war that we are seeing dirt cheap call prices in India today.

Today, Tata Docomo has become the first private telecom operator to launch 3G services in India. Although the official launch date is Diwali, but they flipped the switch today morning (choti Diwali) and their subscribers have been enjoying 3G at blazing fast speeds.

Tata Docomo is starting its 3G services in all the circles where it was able to secure a 3G license in the recent bidding war. These circles are:

  • Rajasthan
  • UP (West)
  • Gujarat
  • Maharashtra except Mumbai
  • Haryana
  • Punjab
  • Kerala
  • Karnataka
  • Madhya Pradesh

In case you are a Tata Docomo subscriber in these circles, you should ideally be able to use their 3G services if your handset is 3G capable. Tata Docomo has also promised that their 3G tariffs will be highly competitive and that anyone who wants to enjoy 3G services will be able to afford them. They should announce the tariffs soon after the official launch.

The good part is that all the private operators have upgraded their network with HSDPA+ class equipments capable of delivering speed up to 21 Mbps!

And in case you are wondering about the speed people are getting on Tata Docomo’s 3G network, head on to http://telecomtalk.info/tata-docomo-3g-speed-test-results/46837/. They are very impressive I must say.

Here is the APN for accessing Tata Docomo’s 3G service from a 3G capable handset:

  1. The reason Tata DOCOMO got there first is to do that it's a recently launched operator.

It knew India would go 3G soon so they built their infrastructure 3G ready right from the start. All they had to do was power them on (or something like that).

Yes of course with right attitude and less circles to cover – they reached there the first.

Heard they have offered the 3G services for free for the first few days – till the end of Nov 2010. Is that true?

  2. I am a happy customer of tata docomo . I am using 3g services at the lightning fast speed. In Haryana i am using it very easily and at a good speed
