Indian Railways planning to launch its own ticket booking site
Apparently, all is not well between the Indian Railways and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). After terminating the catering contract in Rajdhani, Duronto, Shatabdi & other mail and express trains, Indian Railways is allegedly planning to launch its own online ticketing site.
With a profit of approx. INR 1.22 billion, IRCTC is the largest ecommerce site in India, responsible for 30% of all rail booking in India. However, Indian Railways feel that IRCTC lacks in terms of infrastructure and customer support, and is therefore planning to take the task in its own hands.
