Downgrade iPhone 3G baseband from 02.30.03 to 02.28.00

This is good news for people who accidentally upgraded their iPhone 3Gs to 2.2.1 and in turn bricked them. The 2.2.1 firmware for iPhone 3G upgraded the baseband from 02.28.00 to 02.30.03 in turn locking the phone making it unlockable by yellosnOw.

Modmyi is reporting that there is an new tool called pHaseBanDowngrade available which you can use to downgrade your iPhone 3Gs baseband from 02.30.03 to 02.28.00.

DISCLAIMER: Although the tool has been tested out on a lot of phones, please try this out at your own risk. Neither woikr nor any of its members can be held responsible for anything that might go wrong with your phone. Also the process will NOT work if you have bootloader version 5.9 on your iPhone 3G.

Here are the steps:

  1. Download pHaseBanDowngrader.
  2. Install SSH from Cydia and connect to your iPhone
  3. Copy the downloaded folder (phasebandowngrader) into the folder “/Applications” on your iPhone. Make sure that the folder name “phasebandowngrader” is in lowercase.
  4. Install MobileTerminal from Cydia.
  5. Open MobileTerminal and type “login”. The user is “root” and password is “alpine” by default.
  6. Then type: “cd /Applications/phasebandowngrader/”, then, to run the downgrader, type “./phasebandowngrader”
