PluggdIn reports that Amazon is coming to India very soon. They have opened up offices in India (not the software ones, they already have those here) and are on a hiring spree! If all goes well, we should see them launch in the next 6 months. They have already grabbed Landmark’s Retail Chain executive Madhu M to head their India operation and if the following tweet by their HR executive in India is to be believed, they are actively looking for more people with retail and e-commerce experience in India.
There were reports earlier that Amazon was trying to acquire FlipKart, but apparently, they broke down as FlipKart was asking for too much money. In any case, this is great news for Indian consumers and overall commerce ecosystem in India.
