Doordarshan all set to broadcast CWG in HD

Doordarshan is gearing up to broadcast Commonwealth games in High Definition to comply with the rules of the Commonwealth federation. The state run broadcaster has hired UK’s SIS Live to set up an International broadcast center at Pragati Maidan, Delhi to broadcast and relay games in HD.

As per the rules of the Commonwealth games federation, the broadcaster of the game should provide both SD and HD feeds of the game. SIS Live is Europe’s largest outside broadcast and uplink supplier and has been chosen as Doordarshan does not have the technical knowhow and resources to produce the event in HD.

Doordarshan has also begun testing their HD channels on DD Direct Plus DTH service. It is not yet clear if Doordarshan’s HD channels will be available on other DTH operators or not, however, assuming that the TRAI rules will also be applied on HD broadcasts, it will be mandatory for all the DTH and cable operators to carry DD national and 1 more DD channel in HD format.

DTH operators had previously declared that they will be launching HD services ahead of Commonwealth games and almost all the operators have their HD set top boxes for sale in the metro cities.

  1. Well good news, But what is the use, Is there any HD capable FTA set top boxes available in India,

Or are we going to see DD broadcasting it and the helpless common people watching DD-Direct not able to see it, even though they have HD-tv
