LA Noire: Video Games get Amazingly Real Facial Expressions

We’ve all seen the graphics in Video Games evolve in front of our eyes. We’ve seen Mario get a third dimensionResident Evil lose the blocky textures and Grand Theft Auto get a whole new perspective but never did anyone concentrate on the facial expressions. The eyes and nose and lips became visible, then they started moving but that was it. Even in the artistically designed and much-acclaimed-for it’s-graphics had trouble getting the expressions right. But that’s about to change, all thanks to the guys at Team Bondi and Rockstar.

Have a look at the trailer for L.A. Noire below. It pretty much blew me away.

Perfect lip syncing and amazing facial expressions. Here is another video aptly titled, “L.A. Noire: The Technology Behind Performance”.

The game’s visual style is heavily inspired from the film-noir cinema of the 1940s and 1950s era. It is set in “a perfectly re-created Los Angeles” of 1947, with players being given an open-ended challenge to solve a series of murder mysteries.

The game is scheduled to be released on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 by Q2, 2011. I’m already counting days.
