Michael Dell indirectly reveals bitter truth about Windows 7

At a recently held Silicon Valley dinner, Michael Dell revealed a bitter truth about the upcoming Windows 7 operating system:

"I’ve been using Windows 7 for a long time now, and if you get the latest processor technology and Office 2010 with it, you will love your PC again."

Does this mean that if I do not have the latest processor technology (and apparently, Office 2010) and install Windows 7, I would hate my PC?

Moreover, I am not sure how many users would be willing to upgrade to the “latest processor technology” (whatever that means) to upgrade to the successor of the biggest tech failure of the past decade.

I don’t know anyone who has used Hotmail in years. But if you are still amongst the few who use it, here is Reason #461 not to do so.

Neowin reports that some anonymous user posted details, including passwords, of thousands of users accounts with @hotmail.com, @msn.com and @live.com. Ars Technica says the list included usernames starting from “ar” to “bl”.

So if you have a Hotmail account, go change your password or better, abandon it. Meanwhile I’ll try to get hold of the list and find Avril Lavigne’s hotmail password

Can’t believe what kind of so-called-geeks believe that forwarding an email can get them free laptops or even a share of Microsoft’s property giveaway.

This was the email that was apparently doing rounds for the past 8 years and yet again reached my inbox today.

If any delusionary company is ever going to distribute laptops for real, sure count us in. Ofcourse we would anyday prefer a wealthy sack of money from microsoft as a dead give away to this.

Undefined usage of Gmail ? [LOL]

Google thinks I am at an “undefined” usage of Gmail.

Apparently the line above is caused because the Javascript variables which store the usage information haven’t been initialized properly.

Gmail’s official blog gave out this link in a blog post for their new labs feature that puts Google Search inside Gmail.

Check it out before they actually “fix” it.

Apparently, the Google mobile iPhone app has been updated recently. And it has some really weird updates. Have a look:

Amongst the list are “Longer version number” and “Ninja”. Not sure how these are supposed to help the customers, but this probably shows the slacky review process in the Google mobile development team.

So all my male friends out there are still get comments and is being reported as “received comments on her photo“.

This gender mismatch is noticable only in the ‘Status updates’ section on the Orkut home page. Notice it already, will you Google !

GTA IV The Lost and Damned TV Glitch

There seems to be a glitch in the proximity sensing algorithm in the latest episode of GTA IV. The Lost and Damned was released on the Xbox Live marketplace on 17th Feb 2009 just as promised by Rockstar. The DLC is doing good all over the world and has received pretty good reviews from almost all the gaming sites.

This is more of a LOL situation rather than a glitch. When you are in the Lost’s clubhouse, go to the roof and go near the TV antenna. There is a spot near the antenna which is just above the TV room on the floor below. Now the proximity algorithm senses that you are within TV’s range and hence gives you an option to watch the TV:

This is what you get on screen when you opt to watch the TV. Clearly, the game shows you a weird screen which it calculated based on your current position and angle from the TV:

When you stop watching TV, you find yourself magically appear n the TV room in front on the TV:

PS: We mean no offense to the creators of this game. We believe that a lot of hard work has gone down in building what can be called as the best game on the planet right now and we thank Rockstar and all the people in the GTA IV and TLOD team for creating it.

I love Tina Fey and her Liz Lemon in 30 Rock. If you don’t know what am I talking about, you don’t deserve to read this.

Anyway of all celebrities in the world, she was the last I expected to do this. In the last episode of 30 Rock she was found holding her iPhone upside down!

How did they do this!

But what ‘s really weird is that while the phone is upside down, the screen reads straight! And yes, I checked and re-checked, it does not auto-rotate. Anyone has any idea of what is going on here?

Oh yes, it also shows the charging icon.

To their credit, it was at least a funny scene. BTW, Did you get the SMS?

Zune 30GB Y2k8 fiasco

It is being reported that zunes all around the world are sick. The issue? Dec 31st of a leap year. Apparently, if you own a zune, you aren’t allowed go to the last day of a leap year or else it will die. To use it, you will have to use a time machine to go back to an earlier date in 2008, else, you will get this on your zune’s screen:

Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. That being the case, the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device.

Customers can continue to stay informed via the support page on zune.net (zune.net/support).

We know this has been a big inconvenience to our customers and we are sorry for that, and want to thank them for their patience.
